Smooth random is a random signal that moves in continuous curves instead of jumps. It is made by slewing a stepped random signal or by filtering noise, and it creates unpredictable but gentle modulation.
Because it never jumps, it works well on filter cutoff, panning, or oscillator pitch, where it gives subtle movement that does not repeat in a fixed cycle. It is also called a random LFO.
