Stepped random

Stepped random is a random signal that changes only on a clock pulse, then holds its value until the next one. It looks like a staircase. A sample and hold fed with noise is the classic way to make it.

Stepped random, once quantized, is a common source of random melodies. Unquantized, it can control parameters such as filter cutoff in jumps.
