Noise is random, non-pitched sound that contains a wide range of frequencies. In sound design it adds texture, warmth, or complexity, and it is a common source for percussion and random voltages. Noise comes in different colors, which describe how its energy is spread across the frequency spectrum. White noise has equal energy at every frequency, and pink noise has equal energy per octave. Each color has its own character and uses.
