A quantizer is a module that converts a continuous control voltage (CV) into discrete steps that match pitches in a musical scale. It keeps melodic sequences or random voltages in tune, for precise pitch control.
- Scale selection: Maps input CV to the nearest note in a chosen scale, such as C major or minor pentatonic.
- Random melodies: Pair a quantizer with a random voltage source to generate pitch-accurate melodies or arpeggios.
- Sequencing aid: Use a quantizer to make a sequencer’s CV outputs follow a specific scale or mode.
Quantizers keep melodies and harmonies musically coherent in a Eurorack system.
