A low pass gate (LPG) is a module that combines a low pass filter and a voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) in one circuit. When a gate or control voltage is applied, the LPG opens, and the amplitude and harmonic content of the signal are shaped together. The result is a natural, percussive sound, often described as plucky or woody, because loudness and timbre change together, the way they do on acoustic instruments. An LPG can sound more natural and expressive than a separate VCA and filter.
