Pulse wave

A pulse wave switches between two levels, like a square wave, but the time spent high versus low can change. That ratio is the pulse width, or duty cycle. Narrow pulses sound thin and nasal, and wide pulses sound fuller.

A square wave is a pulse wave with a 50 percent width. Modulating the pulse width creates movement, as in pulse width modulation.
