A reset input sends a module back to its starting state when it receives a trigger or gate. On a sequencer, reset returns to step one. On a clock divider, it restarts the count so all divisions line up again.
Reset is used to keep several sequencers in sync, to shorten a pattern by resetting it early, or to start a performance cleanly.
