A trigger is a short control signal that starts an event. Unlike a gate, a trigger is very brief, often under 10 milliseconds. It starts an action but does not sustain. For example, a trigger can start the attack phase of an AD (attack and decay) envelope, and the length of the trigger has no effect on the decay. Triggers are useful when you need a quick, momentary signal to start something without a sustained high voltage.
