Normalling

Normalling is a connection built into a module’s jacks. Without a cable, a signal flows between two points by default. When you plug a cable into the normalled jack, the default connection is broken and your cable takes over.

It saves cables and gives a sensible starting patch. Normalled connections are usually described in a module’s manual.
