A patch is a specific arrangement of cable connections and knob settings on a modular synthesizer. It is the modular equivalent of a preset, except nothing is stored.
Changing a cable or a knob changes the patch, and when you pull the cables out, the patch is gone unless you documented it. Many people photograph or write down patches they want to repeat.
