Aftertouch is a control signal created by pressing harder on a key after it has already been struck. Channel aftertouch sends one value for all keys, while polyphonic aftertouch sends a separate value for each key.
It is often used to add vibrato, open a filter, or raise a modulation amount while a note is held.
