Ratchet

A ratchet is a burst of repeated triggers inside one step of a sequence, like a drum roll or stutter. Instead of one trigger per step, the step fires two, three, or more times in the same span.

Many sequencers have ratchet settings per step, and burst generators or clock multipliers can create the same effect. Ratchets add rhythmic motion to simple patterns.
