Crosstalk is the unwanted leakage of one signal into another nearby one. In a modular, a fast clock or a digital module can bleed into an audio path and show up as faint ticks or whines.
It can happen inside a module, between cables run close together, or through a shared power supply. Keeping noisy and sensitive signals apart and powering sensitive modules cleanly reduces it.
