Vector synthesis mixes several oscillators or sound sources by moving a point in a two dimensional space, usually with a joystick or two control voltages. Each corner of the space is a different source, and the position sets how much of each you hear.
It was introduced by Sequential Circuits in the Prophet VS in 1986. In a modular, a vector mixer controlled by two CVs does the same job.
