Tape delay is a delay effect that records a signal onto a loop of magnetic tape and plays it back a moment later. The spacing between the record and playback heads sets the delay time.
Each repeat loses high frequencies and picks up wobble and noise from the tape, so tape delays sound warm and soft. Many digital modules emulate this character.
