A sub oscillator is an additional oscillator, or a divided output, that plays one or two octaves below the main oscillator. It reinforces the low end and makes a sound feel heavier. Sub oscillators often output square or sine waves.
Many are made by dividing the main oscillator’s frequency by two or four, which keeps them perfectly in tune with it.
