Sample rate

Sample rate is the number of times per second that a digital system measures an audio signal. CD audio uses 44.1 kHz, and many modern modules run at 48 kHz or higher.

A system can only represent frequencies up to half its sample rate, called the Nyquist frequency. Content above that limit folds back as aliasing.
