Pulse width

Pulse width, or duty cycle, is the proportion of each cycle that a pulse wave spends in its high state, usually shown as a percentage. At 50 percent the wave is a square wave.

As the width moves away from 50 percent, the sound becomes thinner and more nasal, and at the extremes it fades out. Changing the pulse width with CV is known as pulse width modulation.
