Pitch shifter

A pitch shifter is an effect that raises or lowers the pitch of an audio signal, usually by a set interval or a continuous amount. Mixing the shifted signal with the original creates harmonies.

Shifting by large amounts or in real time can add artifacts, and many players treat those artifacts as part of the sound.
