Legato describes notes played smoothly connected, with no gap between them. On a synthesizer, legato usually means a new note changes pitch without restarting the envelope, because the gate never drops between notes.
It pairs well with glide for expressive lead lines. Some sequencers offer a legato or tie mode that holds the gate across steps.
