Don Buchla (1937 to 2016) was an American designer of electronic instruments. He built the Buchla 100 series, one of the first modular synthesizers, in the early 1960s.
Buchla avoided a traditional keyboard and favored touch plates, random voltages, and complex sources, an approach often called west coast. His work remains an influence on many modern modular designs.
