A case is the enclosure that holds a modular synthesizer. It provides rails to mount modules on, a busboard to distribute power, and a power supply.
Cases are described by their rows and their width in HP, for example a two row, 84 HP case. Depth matters too, since some modules need more room behind the panel than a shallow case allows.
