Attenuverter

An attenuverter is a control that can both reduce a signal and invert it. At the center the output is zero, turning one way passes the signal at increasing level, and turning the other way passes an inverted copy.

Attenuverters are common on modulation inputs, where one knob sets both the depth and the direction of the modulation. The word combines attenuator and inverter.
