Hum is a low, steady tone in an audio signal that usually comes from the frequency of mains power, 60 Hz in North America and 50 Hz in many other places, along with its harmonics. It is caused by ground loops, poor shielding, or interference from nearby power equipment.
Hum is different from buzz, which has more upper harmonics and sounds sharper.
